Privacy Policy — BDU IAI Announcements

BDU IAI Announcements (“the app”) is published by Blu Dragon Actuarial. This policy
explains what the app collects, why, and who it is shared with. It applies to the Android
app with package name com.arpan.iai_announcements.
1. Information we collect
Account information. To create an account you provide: your actuarial
society (IAI or IFOA), your member ID, a username, your email address, your mobile number,
a display name, and a password. This is the only personal information you give us.
Passwords are stored only as a salted hash — we never store or see your password in
readable form.
Notification token. When you enable notifications, the app registers a
Firebase Cloud Messaging device token with our server. This token identifies your device
installation so we can deliver announcement alerts. It is not linked to your identity
beyond your account and cannot be used to identify you personally.
What we do not collect. The app contains no analytics, advertising, or
tracking libraries of any kind. We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, files,
call logs, or any usage or behavioural analytics. The app requests only internet access,
notification permission, and the permissions needed to keep notification delivery working
after a device restart.
2. How we use it
- Account information — to create and authenticate your account, and
to keep you signed in between sessions. - Notification token — solely to send you push notifications when the
Institute of Actuaries of India publishes a new announcement. - Email address — for account recovery (password reset) and, if ever
needed, essential service notices. We do not send marketing email.
3. Announcement content and summaries
The app displays announcements published publicly by the Institute of Actuaries of India
on actuariesindia.org. Our server retrieves these public pages and documents.
Optional one-page summaries of announcement PDFs are produced using the Google Gemini API.
Only the publicly available announcement document is sent for summarisation —
no user account information is ever sent to Google Gemini or any other AI
service.
4. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it for
advertising. Information is shared only with the service providers needed to operate the
app:
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers push notifications to
your device. - Google Gemini API — summarises public announcement documents only,
as described above.
We may disclose information if required to do so by law.
5. Data retention and deletion
Account information is retained for as long as your account exists. You may request
deletion of your account and all associated personal data at any time by emailing
bludragonactuarial@gmail.com from your
registered email address. We will delete your account and personal data within 30 days of
a verified request. Uninstalling the app stops notifications but does not by itself delete
your account.
6. Security
All communication between the app and our servers uses encrypted HTTPS connections.
Passwords are stored as salted hashes. Access to account data is restricted to the
operator of the service.
7. Children
The app is intended for actuarial students and professionals and is not directed at
children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page and,
where appropriate, notify users in the app.
